Let's be honest for a second.

Raging hormones. Feeling too hot, then too cold. Never quite getting comfortable. Money. Work. School. Hobbies. Friendships. Relationships. Health. Sleep. Trying to figure out who you are while somehow keeping up with everything life throws at you.

No matter which category feels the heaviest right now, it's exhausting to juggle it all. We don't acknowledge that enough.

Life is beautiful, and there is always something to be grateful for. But that doesn't mean it's easy. Sometimes the weight of everyday challenges clouds our perspective, making it difficult to appreciate the good around us or even in each other. Giving ourselves grace for how hard we're trying is a small but meaningful step toward healing—not just for ourselves, but toward creating a more compassionate world.

As a young woman navigating similar challenges, I have really reflected on the support and motivation from others, especially women on similar paths. It is so important to know that the ability to grow, understand and positively influence each other is so unique to our nature. While honoring our independent skills and interests, community is crucial. We were never meant to carry everything alone. When battling modern day living, all of us could share a few uplifting pieces of advice.

As females in today’s world, we put so much of our energy into creating more ideal versions of ourselves based on how we perceive others, especially through social media. Not only do we idealize others, compare ourselves and prioritize things that are no longer necessities, we have to deal with the everlasting changing idea of man’s, or should I say, greater society’s “perfect woman” that is constantly altering female self-reflection and confidence.

There is a defined line between making sure we are taking care of ourselves mentally and physically, and the unrealistic expectations the internet has pushed on us. Trying to stay grounded and clear-minded through all of our emotions and stressors can be overwhelming, so it’s vital that us girls look out for each other. Sometimes all it takes is hearing the right words at the right time to shift your perspective.

So as my testimony to the girls, I want to share some pick-me-up advice to consider that I believe can make a positive difference in our identity, self-confidence, health and mindfulness. My hope is that they inspire healthier habits, a stronger sense of self, and a little more peace in the middle of life's chaos. Don’t forget–I am right here working on it with you, girl!

  1. Use social media as a creative and motivational tool. Comparing personal lives is no longer a trend I want to see. Using your platforms to motivate things like new ideas, places, styles, routines, or self-care in yourself is going to be much more beneficial.

  2. Surround yourself with people who genuinely want to encourage your confidence through any self-journey.

  3. Learn to enjoy your own company & working on emotional dependence.

  4. Take care of your body because it’s the only one you will ever have. Do not outlive your own mobility and interests. A healthier inside and out creates a healthier mind and more productive life, for yourself and those around you.

  5. Stay active in ways that promote your individual goals. This can help mentally and physically depending on preferred location, duration or routine, so really consider what YOU need, not what someone else thinks you do.

  6. Be the one encouraging others and take the first step. It’s never too late to be a leader and hold yourself accountable. Be a good voice for the people around you too.

  7. Maintain a healthy gut. Be secure in your eating, which is cliche, but vital for the best functioning mind and body (inside and out, girl). Let’s all start collectively cutting out the fast food, keeping up with those routine check-ups and promising ourselves a healthy future.

  8. Aim to balance social life, work and personal time equally. Hobbies and relaxation keep us creative, learning and recharged. This allows you to give your best at work or school to support more successful career progression, which then allows you to manage time to connect with friends or relationships to maintain your authentic selves and celebrate each other.

  9. Random, spontaneous and feel-good moments keep you grounded and in touch with your own uniqueness. There is always a time when we need to let out the weird and quirky aspects of ourselves. Having those laugh attacks with your friends or feeding into those guilty pleasure hobbies are what the girls need to stay sane. Don’t forget to stay in touch with that inner-child. Romanticize all of those little moments.

  10. Create more time to regulate, or simply just acknowledge your emotions. The build up of our emotions can be very hard to hold onto. It’s important to take time throughout the day to reflect on why you may be feeling certain things and creating a solution for yourself then and there. This may help long-term around your cycle as well. Understanding why your body is changing, and that it is okay and normal to feel all of these things. Try different solutions to comfort the emotion or something to let it out and attack the urge.
